In response to the yesterday’s report, Deep Silver, the global publisher of the Metro series, denied that another Metro video game is coming in 2017. This is what a post on the IP’s official Facebook page says:
As the exclusive rights holder to videogames set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans' expectations - releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them.
Looks like we’ll have to wait at least until 2018 before we return to this post-apocalyptic universe.
The final part of Dimitry Glukhovsky’s Metro trilogy, Metro 2035 (the English edition will be released on December 10, 2016), will not be the last entry in this post-apocalyptic story set in the Russian subway. Where the books end, another game will pick up, says the timeline of the Metro franchise posted on the official website. According to the information found there, the next Metro game is going to launch some time in 2017. Although there is no mention of its developer, the title will most likely be produced by 4A Games, just like the first two ones were.
Last month, the studio reminded players that they are currently working on two projects. One is VR shooter for Oculus Touch ARKTIKA.1 and the other is something fans of the studio should like. Plus, it’s apparently a traditional PC / console release. Sounds like another Metro game, right?
So far, the franchise spawned two successful shooters: Metro 2033 in 2010 and Metro: Last Light in 2013. They told the story of Artyom, a member of the society of people who survived the WWIII in the Moscow’s subway system. This young man sets off on a perilous journey in order to make it possible for humans to dwell on the surface once again. Both games received a Redux version in 2014, released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
