Among the Baldur's Gate 3 community, the idea of creating the worst party ever to explore Faerun has recently arisen. After all, what else to call a team with a vampire-hating undead running around or a Beastmaster afraid of wolves?
The Baldur’s Gate games owe their existence to the Dungeons & Dragons universe, owned by Wizards of the Coast, who happen to be undergoing major policy centralization right now. That said, we'd like to point out an important aspect of both Baldur’s Gate 3 and DnD as a whole.
A key part of character creation, whether in Baldur’s Gate or tabletop RPGs, is asking yourself, "What class do I want to play?". Based on statistics from Larian Studios, we can see that while players had their preferences from the start, only a few ended up choosing the worst possible class combinations.
Not long ago, Reddit was buzzing with discussions about the worst class choices for every companion in Baldur’s Gate 3. The post’s author, soleidelalune, focused on the most mismatched class combinations based on the story and character personalities, rather than gameplay mechanics.
He highlighted six characters, for whom specific classes are hilariously unfitting given their personal stories. The first is Astarion as a Cleric of Lathander, dedicated to wiping out undead abominations. It just keeps getting better from there.
Next is Shadowheart, who, for personal reasons, isn’t fond of wolves - as a Ranger, specifically a Beastmaster, relying on summoning animal companions, including wolves. Meanwhile, Minthara’s preference for straightforward, brutal combat makes her a poor fit for any mage class.
It’s also hard to imagine the charming Gale as a Berserker Barbarian. You’ll hear him say "I should have a spell for this" and then see him pull out a greataxe. Can you even picture his rage cry? No? Go ahead and check it out - it’s hilarious.
While the post’s funniest suggestions wrap up quickly, the comments section keeps the laughs going with equally hilarious - but just as mismatched - character combinations from other players.
I like Karlach as a thief. Her voice-overs complain any time she's asked to do anything rogue-like ("I'm too tall for this," "Shadows don't suit me," "Can't I just break it?").
I see you don't have any bards in your party yet. It would be an ideal role for Karlach or Misnc... playing songs with a tiny tiny ukelele - I mean, lute.
Karlach could also be a warlock. I'm sure she'd be happy to make a pact with a devil to gain powers.
All the personal storytelling and character depth could disappear with just one click of a button. At least it’s entertaining, even if the story completely falls apart.
