Hardly anyone knows this powerful BG3 spell. Eyebite might not seem like much at first, but it's absolutely worth a closer look.
There’s a lot you can miss in Baldur’s Gate 3. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being busy creating the ultimate build or a personal oversight, like someone discovering how to craft potions on their own after 70 hours of gameplay. Other times, it’s simply not realizing that a hidden weapon could turn you into a powerhouse. But when it comes to spells, the sheer volume can be overwhelming, making it easy to overlook some truly valuable ones. Still, a few underrated spells are absolutely worth your attention – like Eyebite, which is often just a little misunderstood.
Most of us have our go-to set of spells and potions that we stick with for the majority of a BG3 playthrough. Even when we want to try new tactics, some spells still end up flying under the radar and Eyebite is definitely one of them. But it really shouldn’t be.
Eyebite is a level 6 Necromancy spell, and its unclear description might be why many players tend to don’t give it much attention. But here’s what makes it special: while it’s active, you can choose to inflict one of three powerful conditions on an enemy:
Eyebite is a concentration spell that requires an action and a level 6 spell slot to cast. But once it’s up, you can use another action on your next turn to cast it again without spending another spell slot, as long as concentration holds.
In short, you’re dishing out strong debuffs (that can be even stacked!) lasting 10 rounds, making this spell incredibly efficient. If you’re playing as a Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard and you’ve hit level 11, do yourself a favor and give Eyebite a shot.
There’s an interesting discussion on BG3 subreddit, and some more experience players have a good point (via Mein-MMO):
The honest answer? At that level you can pretty much vaporize anything you’ll want to cast it on if you use a damage spell instead.
Eyebite would be great as a 4th level spell, but personally I think it’s one of those things that didn’t translate from table top to the video game super well.
I think it really comes down to the spells you and your companions already have prepared. Powerful offensive spells are usually the preferred option for most players, especially as you level up and become more effective in combat overall, making most encounters end quickly. But when you’re up against a tough boss with a large group of minions, long-lasting effects can make all the difference.
Sometimes it’s just worth trying new things, and in Baldur’s Gate 3, the possibilities are nearly endless. You can even respec your companions and turn Karlach into a Bard if you want. The game really lets you experiment.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
