Tron 3 Gets New Director and Jared Leto in Lead Role

The third part of the Tron series is being produced at a very slow pace, but at least we already know the most important people responsible for the production - including the main star and director.

Disney reminded itself of the existence of a proven IP.

1982 Tron went down in history as a peculiar work, because no one has ever before recreated cyberspace in such distinctively colorful way. The second movie, which made its debut almost 30 years later, did not stand out on the blockbusters market, but broke even and gained a certain number of fans. However, Disney was in no hurry to make a sequel.

In 2017, a reboot was announced and unofficially, Jared Leto (known for his roles in new Blade Runnerr and the Joker in Suicide Squad) was involved. However, the topic soon ceased to exist, but it was never clearly confirmed that the production was stopped. Doubts were dispelled by the Deadline website, which not only announced that the next Tron is being created (albeit at a somewhat snail pace), but also has a director. Joseph Kosinski will be replaced by Garth Davis, whose Lion was nominated for Oscar in 2017.

The old rumors about the main actor have also been confirmed. Jared Leto announced on his social media that he is part of a project called Tron 3 and that he will also be a producer. The artist expresses his gratitude for this opportunity, as the original film and video game have shaped his childhood.

It is still too early to talk about the premiere date, as the work has been standing still for some time and only the arrival of Garth Davis may motivate producers to green light it. We can be sure, however, that the work will be continued, because Leto himself admitted that the creators keep a few surprising story ideas in store.

Then he interpreted Iranian dramas and the Joker, writing for cinematography journal, which, sadly, no longer exists. His writing credentials include a degree in film studies, but his thesis was strictly devoted to video games. He has been writing for Gamepressure since March 2020, first writing a lot about movies, then in the newsroom, and eventually, he became a specialist in everything. He currently edits and writes articles and features. A long-time enthusiast of the most bizarre indie games and arthouse cinema. He idolizes surrealism and postmodernism. He appreciates the power of absurdity. Which is probably why he also tried soccer refereeing for 2 years (with so-so results). He tends to over-philosophize, so watch out.
