Two years after her dismissal, Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination, which occurred because of a social media post in which she compared being a Republican to being a Jew during the Holocaust.

In addition to accusations of discrimination and wrongful termination, the lawsuit includes a demand that the court should force Lucasfilm to recast her and pay at least $75,000 in punitive damages. The lawsuit is being financed by Elon Musk, who has pledged to financially support the legal actions of those discriminated against because of posts made on X (formerly Twitter).

The post mentioned before wasn’t the first time Gina Carano caused controversy on the Internet. Let's go back to 2020 and take a look at all the comments made by the artist that caused a storm and may have added up to Disney and Lucasfilm finally deciding to end their relationship with the actress, who played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian (via The Independent), because, according to a person reportedly close to Lucasfilm, "They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw."

In August 2020, Carano was asked by fans to support the BLM movement. However, the actress didn’t publish anything, which led some Internet users to call her a racist, to which the actress responded as follows:

In my experience, screaming at someone that they are a racist when they are indeed NOT a racist & any post and/or research you do will show you those exact facts, then I’m sorry, these people are not “educators”. They are cowards and bullies.

In September of the same year, Internet users this time asked the artist to include pronouns in her Twitter bio to show support for trans people. In response, the actress added the words "beep/bop/boop" there, which triggered a lot of criticism. Users of the platform pointed out to Carano that it was offensive and disrespectful to trans people, and suggested that she should rethink and remove it.

Later, in several tweets, Gina Carano explained her decision, also mentioning a conversation with Pedro Pascal (with whom she was starring in The Mandalorian at the time), who explained to her the importance of putting pronouns in bio. In the posts, Carano also explained that she wasn’t trying to make fun of trans people, but rather defended herself against the attacking crowd that tried to force her to post something on her profile and insulted her for not doing so.

Yes, Pedro & I spoke & he helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & freedom to choose.

They’re mad cuz I won’t put pronouns in my bio to show my support for trans lives.

After months of harassing me in every way. I decided to put 3 VERY controversial words in my bio.. beep/bop/boop

I’m not against trans lives at all. They need to find less abusive representation.

I don’t think trans people would like all of you trying to force a woman to put something in her bio through harassment & name calling EVERYDAY for MONTHS.

Beep/bop/boop has zero to do with mocking trans people & to do with exposing the bullying mentality of the mob that has taken over the voices of many genuine causes.

I want people to know you can take hate with a smile. So BOOP you for misunderstanding.

In November 2020, Carano wrote about the need to "fix the system” amid early claims that the election was rigged against President Donald Trump. In fact, there was no evidence to support these claims.

We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today. Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud.

Again in November 2020, another of Carano's posts caused controversy. This time it was about memes against wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Fans after that started calling for her dismissal from The Mandalorian.

In a world where everyone wears a mask, it’s a privilege to see a soul.

Democratic Government Leaders now recommends [sic] we all wear blindfolds along with masks so we can’t see what’s really going on.

The final straw was when in February 2021 Carano compared being a Republican to being a Jew during the Holocaust. It led Lucasfilm to fire actress. At the time, a representative of the studio assured that they didn’t intend to continue working with her.

Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours... even by children... Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?

Lucasfilm’s statement:

Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.

At the same time, actress has also been dropped as a client by UTA.

How the case will develop further, we will probably find out in the coming months, when it will be resolved in court.
