WhatsApp's iOS Chat Privacy beta is trying out new features, including one that stops photos and videos from auto-saving to your device

WhatsApp is testing a new "advanced chat privacy" feature in its iOS beta, giving users more control over their conversations. This update blocks others from exporting chat histories and prevents media like photos and videos from automatically saving to your gallery. It’s a much-needed addition, addressing long-standing concerns about chat security, data leaks, and unauthorized sharing.

Until now, the only way to add extra privacy to your chats was by enabling disappearing messages for a set period. But with WhatsApp’s latest iOS beta (version 25.10.10.70), the advanced chat privacy feature takes things a step further. This update allows you to lock down group chats, making sure no one can export chat history or auto-save shared media to their device. Once activated, everyone in the group is notified, and Meta AI is turned off for that chat.

That said, it’s important to remember that people can still manually save media or take screenshots, so it’s not a foolproof privacy solution. Right now, this feature is still in beta, and there’s no official release date yet. A similar update is also in development for WhatsApp on Android, but even Apple’s TestFlight beta testers don’t have access yet. However, it’s expected to roll out to iOS beta users in the coming weeks.

With this update, WhatsApp is taking a step toward stronger chat privacy, giving users more control over how their conversations are shared.
