FNAF Secret of the Mimic shows the early history of Fazbear Entertainment. So, when exactly does the action of the title take place?
The newest installment of the legendary horror series is finally out. Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic takes us to the beginning of Fazbear Entertainment. So, from the futuristic themes portrayed in Security Breach (and Ruin DLC), we are taken to the 70s. When exactly does the action of the game take place, though? Let's answer that question.
Warning! This part contains spoilers from FNAF Secret of the Mimic. You read it at your own risk.
We have never actually found out when Fredbear's Family Diner was opened. The first event with exact date presented in the series is The Bite Of '83 when Crying Child's head was crushed in Fredbear's mouth. As we can’t link all the games to precise dates, it has been accepted that Five Nights at Freddy's story begins in the early 1980s.
Everything before the 80s was unknown. Until now. FNAF Secret of the Mimic introduced the earliest history of Fazbear Entertainment. As we learn from one of the trailers, the action of the game takes place in 1979, when technician named Arnold gets a task to recover company’s property from the workshop owned by a missing contractor named Edwin Murray.
If you have read books depicting FNAF universe, you may know Edwin Murray. He is one of the main characters in two stories – The Storyteller and The Mimic.
The game provides us information about events spread across the 60s and 70s. It gives us an insight into Murray family, the circumstances that led to the creation of Mimic and Edwin’s connection to Fazbear Entertainment. Additionally, we can see prototypes of the legendary animatronics like Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie.
This knowledge changes our perspective on the whole story and shows that William Afton was a horrible person from the beginning. His manipulative and selfish nature is shown in all its glory.
