Last week, the Fallout TV series debuted on Amazon Prime Video. It is an adaptation of the popular video game series, which received a great reception from reviewers and viewers, who appreciated the work done by the crew and cast. Fans of Fallout admit that the filmmakers managed to transfer the atmosphere from the games to the new medium, which is always especially important for fans of the original when any adaptation of it is made. This time, one can speak of a job well done, which is common in recent times for game adaptations – a similar situation occurred, for example, with The Last of Us from HBO.

Where was the Fallout TV series filmed?

Some viewers after watching the Fallout TV series probably wondered where the production was filmed. We will explain this. The crew and cast of the TV show took part in shooting not only in the United States, but also in Africa, Namibia to be exact. Below is a list of where specific locations from the TV series were located.

USA, New York State

  • New York, New York – at the beginning of the episode 2, tests conducted by Dr. Siggi Wilzig on dogs were shown. The Brooklyn Army Terminal Building, which is located in New York City, was used as the site for these events. During World War II, this building was a military supply base, while today it is used for commercial and industrial purposes.
  • New York, New York – New York is where the Fallout crew and cast stayed for an extended period of time. The former ShopRite store, located at 2424 Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp, Staten Island, was also used as a location for the shoot. As you can easily guess, it was converted into a Super Duper Mart in the Fallout TV series.
  • New York, New York – the above location isn’t the only one on Staten Island. Bayley Seton Hospital, which closed in 2019, must have caught the attention of those in charge of finding places to shoot, because it served as Hawthorne Medical Laboratories.
  • Nyack, New York – that's exactly where Red Rocket was recreated with the help of a real gas station. That's also where some of the first photos from the Fallout set, popular some time ago, came from, which fans exchanged, appreciating the appearance of a location known from the games. So if you find yourself in the area, you can visit the Gulf gas station that served as the backbone for the TV series Red Rocket.
  • Harrison, New York – if you were looking for the Vault-Tec headquarters tower, you won't find it, unfortunately. The real part was only the building at the front, which is the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service in Harrison, while the tower itself was added in post-production.
  • Verplanck, New York – the gulper scene was shot on the Hudson River near Verplanck. More precisely, it was at the flooded Cortlandt Quarry.

USA, California State

  • Los Angeles, California – New California Republic Headquarters is a location modeled after the Griffith Observatory, located in Los Angeles, which isn’t the first time it has been featured in a Hollywood production. It is quite a popular location.

USA, Utah State

  • Wendover Air Force Base, Utah – if you were looking for where scenes from the Brotherhood of Steel camp were filmed, check out Wendover Air Force Base, which served as this location. In the past, this base was the site of training for bomber pilots during World War II, and after the war it was used to test other weapons. Ironically because of Fallout's theme, prototypes of atomic weapons were developed and tested here in February 1945.

USA, New Jersey State

  • Pine Barrens, New Jersey – the entrance to Filly was filmed at an airplane and car graveyard in Pine Barrens, New Jersey, located on private property.

Namibia

  • Kolmanskop, Namibia – one of the buildings at this site served as the home of the man who wanted to marry Lucy. Kolmanskop is a ghost town near Elizabeth Bay, known for its well-preserved, partially buried buildings.
  • Skeleton Coast, Namibia – this is where scenes were filmed where Lucy began exploring the Wasteland. At the time, she passed the shipwreck of the Eduard Bohlen, which you will find just in Skeleton Coast.
  • Elizabeth Bay, Namibia – Lucy's actress also shot scenes in the ghost town of Elizabeth Bay, where there used to be a diamond mine that stopped operating around 1998. And back in 2000, the town was declared abandoned.

So, as you can see, the cast and crew of Fallout visited a lot of interesting locations, which may help you when planning your next vacation. By the way, the good news is that they decided to shoot a lot in real locations, instead of locking themselves in a studio and filming with green screen.
