Resident Evil Zero HD: The chessboard puzzle

You can now take the passage in the conference room

Remain in the conference room and take interest in the double door, with armors on its sides, which has been opened after you solved the puzzle described on the previous page. After you open the door, you will walk into a long corridor (M2,23) and, while exploring it, you will encounter several zombies. Eliminate them and go to the very end of the corridor. Open the door leading to the nursing zone filled with beds for sick patients (M2,24). Get rid of new zombies and then plunder the room in order to obtain medicaments and the First Investigation Unit Notes lying on the bed. Return to the corridor and go to the double door that you have been passing by (M2,25).

Check out the desk

You can collect valuable items from this room (you should be able to find, among others, some Ink Ribbons) or immediately approach the desk with a large chessboard on it. Interact with the desk to see a hint for the puzzle.

Try to follow this walkthrough, while taking successive steps. If you make a mistake, you can leave the room for a moment, which will reset the puzzle. As Billy, stand in the spot shown in the above screenshot, i.e. by the white King piece. Start pushing the piece towards the exit door.

End the process of shoving the piece after you reach the next-to-last square (the above screenshot).

Stand to the right of the King piece and shove it to the left by one square (the above screenshot).

Stand behind the piece and start shoving it towards the remaining ones (the above screenshot).

The king needs to get to the square shown in the above screenshot. If you have take all of the steps correctly, you will watch a short cutscene of a secret stash In the desk being opened. Go there and take the Book of Evil. Apart from that, you will receive a new file - Marcus' Diary 1.
