The Last of Us 2: Guard dogs guide, how to kill?

Defense dogs accompany some WLF soldiers and are only fought when playing as Ellie. Enemies with dogs will start to appear in Hillcrest.

Here's a rundown of the most important things regarding fighting dogs:

1. Dogs can follow Ellie's scent trail and lead to her detection as a result. You have to react to it - kill them in advance, distance yourself or distract them with throwables.
2. Trap mines and Molotov cocktails are helpful in effectively eliminating dogs. Mines are particularly useful when a dog is following a scent trail - place them in narrow passages. A Molotov cocktail can effectively set a dog and its owner on fire.
3. Other good weapons for eliminating dogs include a pistol with a silencer and a bow that allows you to kill them without the risk of setting off an alarm.
4. Fighting with dogs is not mandatory. You can just sneak to exits in the locations where they appear, although this can be difficult to achieve at higher levels of difficulty
