ANTHEM IN A NUTSHELL:
- Developer: BioWare
- Publisher: Electronic Arts
- Genre: action game
- Platforms: PS4, PC, XONE
- Release date: February 22, 2019.
We are less than a month away from the release of Anthem, BioWare’s new MMO shooter. No wonder, therefore, that recently we’ve been receiving regular, fresh info about the project. The latest available info concerns the microtransaction system, and it seems like the developers intend to show surprising restraint, especially for a game released under the banner of Electronic Arts.
It has been known for some time that micropayments in Anthem will cover only cosmetic visual item that do not affect the gameplay. Now the creators have revealed that even these elements will not be available for purchase. In the game you will find two currencies – Coins and Shards. The first one will be acquired only through the game, and the second one will be bought for real money. What is interesting, however, most of the cosmetic items will not be bought just for Crystals, because they will also require spending Coins.
In other words, you will not be able to simply buy yourself all the items. Even the wealthiest players will be required to actually play the game, because without doing it they will run out of Coins. It is worth mentioning that earlier BioWare confirmed that all cosmetic items in the game can be acquired by simply playing.
Let’s remind that the game will feature no lootboxes. Moreover, all new adventures, maps, events and challenges will also be available for free. The developers stated that the only element that may in the future cost real money will be additional types of Javelin armor. So far, however, they have not made any decisions on this issue.
Anthem is heading for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game will make its debut on February 22, this year. It is worth mentioning that we will soon be able to try out the demo, although it will be somewhat different from the full release. Subscribers of EA Access or Origin Access will be able to play the demo version on January 25-27. The rest of the community will be able to do it on February 1-3.
