The Case of the Golden Idol is a point-and-click adventure, which, however, is quite different from typical representatives of the genre. The devs like to describe their creation as a new type of detective games. What counts the most here is the ability to deduce, think logically and connect clues, which, in turn, require a lot of perceptiveness to notice. We've got 12 cases involving various, seemingly unrelated, murders to solve. We start with the simplest ones, until we end up in the middle of more complicated intrigues.
Everything is servved in a unique retro style, and the setting is an alternative version of 18th-century England. The action spans over 40 years. The work of Color Gray Games is impressive in almost every way, if you like this type of entertainment, of course (also confirmed by the devveloper of Papers, Please). Solving subsequent cases brings great satisfaction, and the setting, although specific, pleases the senses.
