A Plague Tale: Requiem

- Genre: TPP action adventure game
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch (cloud), cloud
- In a nutshell: A dark story about the strength of family ties with rats in the background
What is A Plague Tale: Requiem about?
This is quite a unique TPP action game, in which corridor gameplay with an emphasis on stealth (except for one location) always remains somewhat subordinate to narrative. We play the role of Amicia – a teenage girl trying to save her seriously ill brother Hugo – and set off on a long and dangerous journey. In the first installment (currently unavailable in Game Pass), we wander around medieval France, ravaged by the plague and a cruel inquisition. Rrquiem is a direct continuation of the prequel and at the same time the conclusion of the siblings' story. In Requiem we visit, among other palces, Provence. There will also be an opportunity to go boating.
In addition to the unique theme and captivating story, A Plague Tale is also distinguished by a special technology of rendering swarms of thousands of rats, which are one of the main threats the pair of heroes will have to brave. As the children are not very suitable for spectacular fights with such an opponent, we have to produce a bit cleverer ways to overcome these and other obstacles.
What makes it worth playing?
After the first installment of the series, the players already knew what to expect from Asobo Studio's production and impatiently waited for the end of the dilogy. The plot is captivating from the very first moments, and we really start rooting for the kids at every step. The relation between the brother and sister has been perfectly depicted here, so their fates will move us more than once.
In addition, A Plague Tale: Requiem looks beautiful (note the hardware requirements) and is very atmospheric. Medieval reality is evident every step of the way. We watch the ruins of the castle, the interior of the fort, the sacred chambers, and even the city fair. Each location delights with design and artistic delivery. The gameplay is an interesting departure from what we know from other action games, because children can rely solely on cunning, and mainly shoot with a slingshot and a crossbow – a novelty in the second game. The fifteen hours needed to complete the game seems to be the optimal time not to abandon the game in the middle, and at the same time feel the satisfaction of knowing a complete, interesting story.
