What is Trek to Yomi about?
The recent game, the fruit of cooperation between Leonard Menchiari and Flying Wild Hog, is about a samurai who fights against evil in feudal Japan. Despite Hiroki's limited experience and initial failures, he doesn't give up and moves forward, or rather sideways.
What makes it worth playing?
At first glance, you can see we're dealing with an original, artistic graphic design. It's a great addition to the experimental gameplay. Trek to Yomi is an unusual side-scroller with an extensive combat system (though you can also play the same combo over and over again). It's unusual because the scene doesn't move sometimes. In between consecutive clashes, the player has a moment to take a breather and explore the perfectly designed locations. They hide, among others, items that increase durability and ammunition. Katana isn't the only weapon we'll be able to use. There's also a bow, shurikens, and a portable cannon.
The plot is fine, and more importantly – if you're busy – it's short. The game can be completed in a few hours. Despite such a condensed form, however, there's room for a strong plot twist and decisions that affect the course of the story. For fans of all things Japan, Trek to Yomi is a must-have. The others might just want to give it a try. Now available on Game Pass.
