There are many more interesting titles being created in Poland than just Cyberpunk 2077 or Dying Light 2. It is perfectly visible at this year's Gamescom.

Table of Contents

Wingspan

Release date: September 2020;

Platforms: PC, Switch

From the creators of: Thea: The Awakening (Monster Couch).

Wingspan is an unusual strategy card game that can be played solo, or with up to four other people. This educational game allows players to learn all about birds by realistically incorporating the customs of 170 kinds of these animals into the rules of the game. Matches take place in a number of turns, and the objective is to acquire as many bird cards as possible.

Each turn lets us perform one action of a limited range, determined by the kind of bird we want to play. There are the predators, able to perform offensive actions, there are birds who drop eggs in nests of others; some flock together to become much more effective than alone. The game is based on a table-top card game of the same name and features a visual setting that's reminiscent of the original – the boards are hand-drawn, and they feature some amazing art depicting forests and individual birds. A fantastic little touch are also the realistic bird sounds.

Gatewalkers

Release date: December 2020 (Early Access);

Platforms: PC

From the developers of: Drill Deal (A2 Softworks).

At first glance, Gatewalkers looks like just another co-op hack’n’slash game focused on traveling through procedurally generated (and very pretty) levels, collecting items and equipment, gaining experience levels and fighting hordes of opponents. The game diversifies the experience by adding elements of survival into the mix.

The worlds we enter through the gates are often characterized by extreme conditions that generate additional problems. In frozen worlds, heat will be essential, or no one else will survive. But frost is just one way to perish – there is also toxicity, darkness (also negatively impacting mental health), hunger and thirst. The only way to survive is through cooperation and making responsible decisions, such as sending a team member to secure the camp and supplies while the rest takes care of the fight.

Occupy Mars: The Game

Release date: late 2020/early 2021 (early access)

Platforms: PC

From the developers of: Alter Cosmos (Pyramid Games).

The colonization of Mars becomes less unbelievable every year, and it slowly becomes a matter of "when," rather than "if." No wonder the concept provides fertile ground for video game creators. Among them are developers of Alter Cosmos, who in Occupy Mars: The Game will allow us to colonize the Red Planet.

The game portrays the adventures of an astronaut whose goal is to build a functional colony on Mars. The action is presented from 3rd person perspective, and the first task requires finding the appropriate location. Secondly, the necessary raw materials need to be obtained to allow the colony to function independently, with access to oxygen, electricity and plants being absolutely fundamental. New modules of the expanding base must be connected with pipes and cables, the area has to be protected from sandstorms, and all the systems need maintenance.
