The Best RPGs on Game Pass

Game Netflix, as Game Pass is often called, offers more and more titles from different genres. However, RPG fans have the biggest reasons to be happy. The offer doesn't lack both classics and new releases. And even completely offbeat indies.

Table of Contents

Hades

  1. Release year: 2021
  2. Developer: Supergiant Games

Supergiant Games is famous for its original, extremely atmospheric productions. This studio founded by former employees of Electronic Arts, first in 2012 conquered the indie market with a best-selling, and, at the same time, critically-acclaimed Bastion. Then came the Cyberpunk-style Transistor and Pyre, which eludes genre classification. After the release of the latter, we had to wait 4 years for the next game by Supergiant Games. But it was definitely worth it!

Although the action of Hades takes place in a mythological setting, the creators re-interpreted the myths. Complicated family ties have been simplified a bit, so there less incest overall. This doesn't mean, however, that the game lacks depth in terms of lore. The main character, Prince Zagreus, has to face not only the sins of his parents, but also his own weaknesses. And defeat all of the Hades, full of legions of armed enemies. Twenty times or more.

In the beginning, Zagreus will die. And he was reborn right under his father's nose. He will travel through the Greek hell so many times that his enemies will befriend him. At least some of them. Each time, however, gameplay will be a bit different – randomly-generated gifts from individual Olympic gods will allow us to use different skills, weapons and tactics. And although the difficulty level may seem high at the beginning, everyone will finish the game thanks to the perfectly-balanced character development system. Some will just need to die a few more times. Okay, maybe even several dozen more. After all, this is the land of the dead, right?

Children of Morta is a game published by Polish 11 bit studios. We play the role of members of a very talented family. The dark production is perhaps not a full-fledged RPG, but certainly a title that offers elements of the genre woven into the convention of horror roguelike.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling

  1. Release year: 2020
  2. Developer: Moonsprout Games

The tiny game of the debuting studio Moonsprout Games, released in 2020, immediately won the sympathy of the reviewers, who appreciated the original graphic style, fresh combat mechanics and an incredibly charming world. The plot may not be too complicated, but it's hard to consider Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling as a drawback.

Some elements of the environment are three-dimensional, while others look as if they were cut out of paper. But that's related to the story, and it actually complements it well. The colorful, clear interface also deserves praise. Even if you haven't had anything to do with similar games before, you'll get the ropes in an iffy.

The three main characters – insects – are hard not to like. The beetle, the bee and the moth are searching for treasures and trying to discover the secret of immortality. It's alleged to be provided by a mysterious seedling. Sounds weird? That's good. This is what Bug Fables is supposed to be. Twisted, original and sometimes completely absurd. You can never get enough of such original indie games.
