The Best RPGs on Game Pass

Game Netflix, as Game Pass is often called, offers more and more titles from different genres. However, RPG fans have the biggest reasons to be happy. The offer doesn't lack both classics and new releases. And even completely offbeat indies.

Table of Contents

Nobody Saves The World

  1. Release year: 2022
  2. Developer: Drinkbox Studios

The new Nobody Saves the World checked into Game Pass right after the premiere. A colorful RPG, roguelike action game quickly garnered good scores and became one of the most-played indie games of 2022. Just like the previous production of Drinkbox, namely Guacamelee!, Nobody Saves the World also doesn't even try to pretend a game that is accessible to a mass audience. The colorful design may not be to everyone's liking. However, those who are able to stomach will have a chance to fall in love with this game.

The main character here is... Nobody. Literally and figuratively a colorless person. One that does not have innate superpowers or even learned skills. The protagonist began training with a powerful magician, who, however, disappeared at the very beginning. So nobody is on their own. The mission is to cleanse dungeons full of monsters that become more dangerous as Misfortune personified becomes stronger.

The Nobody at the beginning of the game has only the teacher's wand. Thanks to it, we can shapeshift and use combat skills associated with these forms. Over time, we will become a skillful executioner of hosts of monsters. However, bosses can still be difficult. The level of enemies in Nobody Saves the World is adjusted to the statistics of the protagonist. So, the balance between satisfaction of growing power and still getting new challenges was kept until the very end.

ARX Fatalis

  1. Release year: 2002
  2. Developer: Arkane Studios

ARX Fatalis is only available on Game Pass for PC.

This year, ARX Fatalis turns twenty. And it unfortunately shows. To make matters worse, the graphics might have seemed outdated already at the time of the original release. The control was also problematic, and the fact that we are underground throughout the game often made finding the right path a real challenge. However, all these disadvantages are still not enough to discourage fans of old-school RPGs from using ARX Fatalis.

And I must admit that it does not surprise me too much. Although I haven't played Arkane Studios production for a few years, I still remember the extremely atmospheric underground, claustrophobic atmosphere of narrow corridors and more secrets to be unraveled. There were any more questions than there were answers, the health bar stubbornly didn't want to lengthen, and the fights were never easy. Most of the time, it was better just to sneak. Or try to talk to your opponent. The thing is that the game does not forgive mistakes and it could end with a sudden death for the hero.

The prospect of imminent death accompanies the player until the very end. The controlled character is not an indestructible hero in shining armor, but someone who tries at all costs to survive in a brutal and extremely hostile world. Without the sun – literally and figuratively. Therse are the RPGs I want to see.
