The Best RPGs on Game Pass

Game Netflix, as Game Pass is often called, offers more and more titles from different genres. However, RPG fans have the biggest reasons to be happy. The offer doesn't lack both classics and new releases. And even completely offbeat indies.

Table of Contents

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

  1. Release year: 2020
  2. Developer: Ryu ga Gotoku Studio

In Game Pass, you can play several installments of the popular Japanese gangster RPG series. The most coveted part seems to be the flawless and incredibly spectacular entry number seven. It won't be an exaggeration to say that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is largely an interactive movie. It won't be up everyone's alley, especially if you are used to the gameplay model known from GTA, but it also brings some of the best atmosphere of Ryu ga Gotoku Studio.

In Like a Dragon, the creators decided to introduce a new protagonist to the universe – Ichiban Kasuga, replacing the otherwise loved Kazuma Kiryu. For Western players, often unfamiliar with other parts of the cycle, it shouldn't be a bigger problem. Yes, in Like a Dragon you will find a lot of references to previous games in the series, but you can also enjoy the captivating main plot without knowing them.

The area on which we are moving is much larger in the 2020 game than in Yakuza 6. Combat was also improved, forcing you to rethink your attack strategy and use the potential of all your companions. Although it is turn-based, it allows for dynamic, spectacular battles. Especially considering the use of some really interesting, innovative mechanical solutions.

Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Ages

  1. Release year: 2017 (3DS)
  2. Developer: Square Enix

Dragon Questy is a brand of Final Fantasy in Japan that has never been overwhelmed by its popularity. Anyway, the same studio has been responsible for the production of both series in recent years. It was started by Enix, which merged with Square in 2003. In fact, a large number of artists and programmers working on the first part, released in 1986, are still developing the series.

Some of the iconic Dragon Quest characters were designed by Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama. The inspiration with the adventures of Goku and the rest can also be noticed in the plot. The famous manga creator also worked on part eleven, with the support of Eiichiro Nakatsu.

The main assumptions of the game have not changed since the beginning of the series – the player's tasks include exploring the area and fighting very diverse opponents. The protagonist can use the help of companions, some of whom bring to mind the heroes of classic RPGs, while others are taken straight from the Saiyan universe of Dragon Ball. The disadvantages of the game include the not-very-convincing soundtrack and the main storyline that isn't very revealing. However, this is still one of those games that are simply worth playing.

SpellForce 3 is a fantasy game of a completely different kind. Combining elements of RPG and RTS, the game is mostly about demanding, spectacular battles on a large scale. The story itself maintains a similar atmosphere. For fans of this genre mix, it is an absolute must-play.
