The Most Infamous Glitches of Online Games

There have been plenty of bugs in the history of MMORPGs that caused problems for players across the world, and gave the developers a tough nut to crack. Some of them were funny, others nothing short of infuriating. Let's relive them all!

Asheron s Call – this story did not develop according to the creators

Asheron's Call is a classic MMORPG that's officially available. A long time ago (in 2000), the developers prepared a special event in which players had the opportunity to destroy a crystal (this story was much more extensive, but it isn't important today). People were happy to get down to business. The problem is that some found the goals designed by the creators too boring.

On most servers, the crystal was destroyed without problems. On many of them even on the first day. However, in the world of Thistledown, things got a little complicated. A group of players gathered round and decided to prevent others from destroying the crystal. Everything was done to prevent them from completing the quest, including killing them.

"Renegades" guarded the crystal all day to prevent its destruction. They even used a bug in the game's mechanics to strengthen it – sacrificing themselves, so that the item grew and expanded. This alone would have not been a real problem, but the crystal grew in power faster than it should, which surprised even the developers. At the same time, part of the players, rather than joining either side of the conflict, simply supplied food and potions to the defenders, making money on the side. The situation prevailed for so long that the developers decided to intervene with the help of special, enhanced tools. The quest had to end before a new update could be uploaded to the servers.

The thing was that the crystal wasn't going to fall, and the rogue players weren't going to give up. A group of admins was sent, sort of like special operatives, to deal with the situation; their characters died a few times before they finally managed to destroy the crystal. Interestingly, the people taking part in this insane defense were not punished – on the contrary. The creators immortalized them on a special monument.
