What Happened to Heroes of Might and Magic, or Biggest Ubisoft IPs We're Slowly Forgetting

Ubisoft is showering us with new brands and an increasingly diverse catalog of games. It's just that instead of items like XDefiant or Hyper Scape, we'd probably prefer a return of Heroes or Rayman. Here are 10 big franchises that Ubisoft could resurrect.

Table of Contents

Ghost Recon

  1. Genre: tactical shooter
  2. How long have we been waiting: 3 years, but it's actually 15 or more

Yes, that's right. This is not a forgotten brand or a long-lost series that we have not seen for a long time, but its current form is like... a husk. During the development of newer installments, the developer made decisions severely against the expectations of the community, especially the loyal fans who remember the series' origins as a challenging tactical shooter with an engaging storyline worthy of the name of Tom Clancy. It will be enough to mention that Ubisoft attempted to turn it into a battle royale, but fortunately this montrosity was shelved. In 2017, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands appeared, which changed the existing tactical gameplay focused on single missions into a typical open "ubiworld" game. This was unusual, but you could still swallow it somehow thanks to the wonderful landscapes of Bolivia and the great freedom in choosing ways to complete the mission.

The success of the game prompted the publisher to strike again, and quite unexpectedly in 2019 a sequel - Breakpoint - appeared. Unfortunately, this one was off the rails. The action of the game is set in a fictional land, and tactical shooting has been replaced by shops with microtransactions, seasons, daily challenges, and completely mismatched looter shooter mechanics with weapons and equipment that magically change statistics, like swords and elixirs in a fantasy RPG.

The game was very poorly received both by the reviewers and the fan community. Some described it as "pathetic" and "dissapointing". Moreover, it turned out to be a huge financial flop for Ubisoft, although it was not abandoned, and work on repairing not fully working mechanics and the introduction of new content was continued.

And we are still waiting for such a proper Ghost Recon - faithful to its roots and, above all, worthy of the name of Tom Clancy in the title . Ubisoft - you don't need to search for online trends, or do battle royales like the rest of them. All you need is a serious, authentic atmosphere instead of rapper-worthy outfits and exotic supercars with golden rims in the middle of the jungle and mountain ranges - because that's what Breakpoint focused on. We sincerely still hope that Ghost Recon from the times of the first installment of the series or Advanced Warfighter returns.
