In The Witcher Saga, Andrzej Sapkowski left an open ending. Geralt and Yennefer ended up on the Malus Island. Long after reading the Polish writer's bestseller, the reader might have wondered whether Ciri would be able to bring them back or not. CD Projekt RED followed this decision. In one of the endings, Geralt theoretically dies, in others, he doesn't. However, none of this prevented him from returning in two expansions to The Witcher 3Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The latter, which the creators have repeatedly emphasized in interviews, is the last major fictional campaign added to the game, and therefore probably also a farewell to Geralt.

In Sapkowski's short story collection entitles Something Ends, Something Begins (which is not in fact a canonical continuation of the saga, as the author himself pointed out), it may seem an incomplete farewell. Modders came to the rescue of the die-hard fans of the universe. Using the Witcher 2's engine, they created an almost complete expansion pack. The plot is something between an adaptation of the said stories, and the direct continuation of the loose ends left after the third game.

Geralt marries Yennefer, and an entire host of characters known from this universe arrives at the wedding. It's touching, nostalgic, but also scary sometimes, as a story about a lost monster hunter, rather than a prince. Overall, he creators of Farewell of the White Wolf managed to deliver a very heart-warming experience. The bar was set very high by the entire trilogy, but the modders did their job well. Way to go!
