Twelve Most Memorable Deaths in Video Games

Death is almost stunningly prevalent in video games, but it's usually void of emotional charge. There have been "a few" games, though, which weren't afraid to do away with some really significant characters. Here's a list of the most memorable of them.

Table of Contents

Lee Everett – The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game Series

Game: The Walking Dead Season 1

Cause of death: bit by zombie / shot by Clementine

Last words: "I'll miss you" / "Don't be afraid" / "You'll be okay”

How we will remember him: as Clementine's responsible guardian, the informal leader of his group, a man who always tried to do the right thing, even in the most difficult situations, and a man who never completely mastered thinking quietly

While other, seemingly completely normal people, during the apocalypse, presented in the first season of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, usually presented themselves from their worst side, Lee Everett underwent a transformation from a convict to a hero. When we met him, he was handcuffed in the back of a police car on his way to prison, where he was going to spend the rest of his life. The outbreak of the zombie epidemic prevented him from ending up behind bars. From the moment he met young Clementine, Lee became her guardian, eventually going as far as sacrificing his life to keep her safe.

The relationship between Lee and Clementine is the best storyline of the first five episodes of The Walking Dead – the following seasons lacked something comparable.

That's why his last moments were remembered by gamers as one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in video games. Throughout the last episode of the first season of The Walking Dead, Lee was well aware that after being bitten by a zombie, he had little time left to save the kidnapped Clementine. The search for the girl, which continues throughout the episode, was basically a suicide mission, during which the character loses several of his comrades, and even – depending on the choice we made –could cut off his own infected hand.

Despite this, he eventually manages to find Clem and free her from the hands of the psycho kidnapper. And I think it is this iron determination and concern for the well-being of a child he met by chance makes their last moments together so moving. Dying Lee struggles to piece together several sentences, but even then he tries to help the girl. The broken voices of both characters, the tear-jerking, Clementine, who kills her guardian with trembling hands, so that doesn't turn into a zombie – no wonder it is difficult to find anyone who would make it until end credits with dry eyes.

The last moments of Lee Everett led to tears not only thousands of gamers around the world, but also the actor who played his role. In one of the interviews, Dave Fennoy admitted that during the recording of the lines for the final episode of the first season, he got overtaken by emotions and cried. "After playing Lee for almost a year, I think part of me became him," said the actor. - "I really felt like I was losing Clementine."
