January 1, 1992

The fourth installment of the popular first-person RPG series launched in 1986 by New World Computing. In Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen, the party that pursues Sheltem gets to a land oppressed by the mysterious Lord Xeen who imprisoned Xeen’s governor, Crodo, and wreaks havoc in the world that plunged into chaos. To defeat the demonic ruler, one must forge a special sword — and the player-controlled party naturally takes on this task. The fourth installment of the series is powered by the same graphics engine and features nearly identical gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. The most notable novelties include the useful note system and the possibility of choosing one of two difficulty levels, Adventurer or Warrior, which influence the durability of our foes. The user interface received a special compartment for story items, which prevents us from accidentally selling them.

Darklands

Darklands

PC

RPG

August 20, 1992

A unique cRPG with isometric view, developed by the experienced Microprose studio. It doesn’t take the players to a typical fantasy world, but is rather set in XV century’s Germany. Authors also tried to adhere to historical facts, such as the growing influence of catholic church or the Inquisition. Darklands doesn’t feature a clear plotline, offering unbounded freedom of playing and fulfilling quests instead. It also stands out with its complex character creation system, where we create the complete biography of our character, choosing his previous occupation, and shaping his skills and personality in accordance with our preference. Furthermore, the game introduces an innovative combat system, with the fights taking place in real time and featuring active pause.
