Another edition of an annually released sports game series devoted to basketball, developed jointly by Visual Concepts and the publisher of the franchise, 2K Games. NBA 2K16 employs the well-proven mechanics of the series, offering user-friendly controls that achieve the perfect balance between simulation and arcade, as well as the traditional wide array of play modes for both single and multiplayer. The main game mode is MyCareer, prepared under the eye of a famous American movie director Spike Lee. This ensured a compelling story enriched with subplots more or less connected to sport. The creators also introduced a bunch of gameplay improvements, mostly focused around player control. Moreover, graphics was enhanced, becoming much more detailed - including things like the players’ shoes. You can also appreciate more detailed and better animated crowds.

Another installment in the popular basketball video game series. In comparison to the previous title in the series, the mechanics have not been altered in any major way. Once again, the players receive access to a complex basketball simulator, in which they can face NBA league teams, or the national teams of US and Australia. Aside from the basic options, allowing the player to engage in single- or multiplayer matches, the creators also included modes such as MyGM and MyLeague. These modes allow the player to take the reins of managing the team, deciding on the color of the outfits, or the logo visible on players’ shirts. The visuals are once again top notch, with an interesting feature in the form of a face recognition system, which allows the players to transfer their likeness to the virtual basketball court.

In NBA 2K18, the players once again get an elaborate basketball simulator revolving around the official NBA league. Apart from the teams currently playing in the league and the official USA and Australia national teams, the game delivers iconic teams from the past - not only those, one might remember from the previous installments in the NBA 2K series, but also such teams as 1998-1999 New York Knicks and 2007-2008 Denver Nuggets. In NBA 2K18, one can play alone or in a company of other players. The game features several game modes - the most important one being MyCareer, in which one gets to create their own basketball player and follow his career of an NBA professional player. NBA Playgrounds is an arcade sports game inspired by the NBA Street game series. It was developed by Saber Interactive, a studio mostly known for their futuristic first-person shooters like TimeShift and Inversion. In NBA Playgrounds, players take part in basketball matches. Even though the gameplay is based on classic rules, it has not much to do with reality. The players can jump incredibly high and do various tricks during those jumps. Nonetheless, mastering all of the game's twists, turns and moves takes some time. It has to be mentioned that the developers managed to acquire the official NBA license. Thanks to that, we can play as both current and old NBA stars. As we win, the players get new abilities, which allows them to do more complicated sport stuns. NBA Playgrounds can be played both in single player and multiplayer modes. The game has characteristic cartoonish visuals. Characters available in the game are caricatures of sorts of the real NBA players, and various lighting effects are present during our matches. All of this goes well with NBA Playground's gameplay.

After the three previous installments, which were average games at best, the developer was given more time to create this new follow-up. Thanks to that, NBA Live 18 brings a few interesting novelties. Above all, the game introduces The One mode - the player creates their own character and takes part in matches in The Streets mode and The League component (the latter is the NBA league). The player works on the skills of their character while experiencing the game, acquires new outfits and tattoos. Apart from that, 12 teams from the WNBA league (women's NBA) were featured, such as L.A. Sparks, Minnesota Lynx or New York Liberty. When it comes to gameplay, the creators prepared more intuitive controls, as well as hundreds of new moves the particular basketball players are popular for. The game offers both single player and multiplayer (competitive and co-op) modes. One can experience the Ultimate Team, and the Takedown modes, but also play friendly matches.

An arcade sport game from Story Fort studio, offering a truly peculiar version of basketball. Creators of Dunk Lords were inspired by unusual sports games from the previous century, mainly the NBA Jam series. Instead of regular basketball matches, we receive a spectacular and quite brutal game, in which two teams of five players use supernatural powers. We can choose from sixteen diversified players (both humans and strange mutants), each with unique talents. They can also attack opponents, which more often than not turns out to be more important than scoring points. As if that wasn’t enough to heat up the game, playgrounds themselves are filled with obstacles and traps. Dunk Lords offers story campaign in single player and cooperative variants, as well as multiplayer for up to four people.

Another annual edition of one of the most popular sports games devoted to basketball. After a several-year break, the franchise returned to the traditional annual release cycle in 2013. Compared to its two poorly-received predecessors, NBA Live 16 brings a considerable number of changes and novelties. Mechanics-wise, the most notable ones include the new LIVE Motion system, which is responsible for AI-controlled players behavior, and physics-based movement model. With the latter, the controls were thoroughly revamped, now giving more control over the basketballers’ actions. The wide range of game modes was enriched with two entirely new ones: LIVE Run — an outdoor online competition of two 5-people teams — and Summer Circuit, in which we travel throughout the USA with our team and play against local opponents. The title is also integrated with the constantly updated system of statistics and leaderboards maintained by Synergy Sports Technology.
