Wandering Sword PC

Wandering Sword is an RPG by the Chinese Xiameng Studio. The game is heavily inspired by wuxia. The term originates from Chinese popular literature, as well as movies, comics and video games based on it. Its heroes usually are part of upper social classes, wield melee weapons and have superhuman abilities.

Plot

Wandering Sword is set in a fantasy world, the battlefield of a war between two opposing clans. We play as a young man from Liao City, ending up in the middle of their conflict. He ends up poisoned and saved from death by Qinxu - the leader of the Wudang school. This begins his adventure, during which he'll traverse the world, become a famous warrior and make a mark in the realm's history. It's up to our choices how his journey will go and end.

Mechanics

Wandering Sword makes use of the bird's eye perspective. The game's world is vast and open, consisting of beautiful landscapes, prosperous cities, smaller villages, mighty fortresses and numerous dungeons. As we traverse the world, we'll complete main quests, side quests and get to know its inhabitants. Each NPC can be befriended by giving them gifts and talking. If they take a liking to us, they can join our party, give us their weapon or share their knowledge with us.

Obviously, not everyone is friendly, so there's plenty of combat to be had. The game features two combat systems - more tactical players can choose turn-based combat, while those who prefer agility and reflexes can choose real-time combat instead. As we progress through the game, we join various martial arts schools, unlocking unique weapons and combat abilities.

Technical aspects

Wandering Sword runs on the Unreal Engine 4. The game's unique artstyle combines pixel art and 2D sprite work with 3D environments and modern visual effects.
