Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is the seventh installment of a series of strategy-tactical RPGs by the Japanese studio Nippon Ichi Software. The adventure takes place in a demonic realm and revolves around turn-based battles. The game focuses on single-player content and follows the adventures of Fuji and Pirilika.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is another installment of the popular series of tactical strategy jRPGs. The game was developed by the Japanese studio Nippon Ichi Software, the team responsible for the entire series, starting from the first part released in 2003.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless expands on the ideas from the previous games. We are dealing with a strategy RPG, in which the gameplay focuses on conducting turn-based battles that allow us to command a small unit of characters.
The game has very advanced combat mechanisms, allowing us to use a multitude of different techniques, attacks and items. Apart from battles, we engage in exploring the world and developing the heroes under our command. Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless offers over forty hero classes, so we have great freedom in shaping our team.
The action takes place in the demonic land of Hinomoto, where no code of honor applies. The protagonist of the campaign is a lazy and greedy samurai named Fuji, who is persuaded by a girl named Pirilika to become her bodyguard during an expedition to the land of demons.
The game continues the narrative traditions of its predecessors. The campaign scenario is heavily comedic and often mocks the clichéd patterns of fantasy and RPG genres.
The game only has a single player mode. However, we can put our teams up for automatic online battles against other players. The results of such skirmishes then shape the ranking of the best teams.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless offers a three-dimensional graphic design made in a style typical for Japanese cartoons.
In 2024, Disgaea 7 Complete was released in Japan (under the title Disgaea 7: Kore made no Zenbu Iri Hajimemashita). This version was released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. In 2025, it appeared on Nintendo Switch 2, making its way to the West as well.
Compared to the standard version of the game, Disgaea 7 Complete primarily stands out due to a new story (World Savers Squad), in which the Fuji and Piriliki meet characters from earlier parts of the series. Moreover, this edition includes all previously released story add-ons and character DLCs. The content is complemented by unlocked maximum statistics, the ability to use powerful Infernal Weapons for free, and a confrontation with one of the most difficult bosses in the series history - Rakshasa Baal.

Disgaea 7 Complete is a pretty good package for the $69.99 price tag. The base game is great and like I said in my previous review, this was a return to form for this franchise. The DLC adds quite a bit to the game if you’re a fan of the Disgaea franchise, or if you just want a bunch of special characters to fill out your party with. I think this is a must for Nintendo Switch 2 owners that haven’t already invested in the previous release. You’ll find a great strategy game here that runs very well on your hardware.

Disgaea 7 on the Switch One was a little bit disappointing, but the Switch 2 upgrade brings back all the memories that made it the perfect RPG. The Jumbification system and associated giant-sized tactics add fresh flavor. Turn-based tactics with many character classes, deep post-game, and min-maxing systems. The main story is long, the post-game is huge, ideal for those who like to grind and dive deep. For newcomers to the series, this can be overwhelming or off-putting. Because of the deep mechanics and post-game, a lot of time is spent doing repetitive battles.
