A refreshed version of the best-selling action-adventure game with RPG elements and an open world. Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered has us playing as Aloy in a world filled with animal-like machines. The remaster offers a graphics upgrade, as well as new PS5 & PC features.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is a refreshed version of Horizon: Zero Dawn - Complete Edition, an action-adventure game with RPG elements, which marked the beginning of the best-selling brand in the portfolio of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The remaster contains not only the content of the base version of Horizon: Zero Dawn, but also The Frozen Wilds expansion. It is the result of collaboration between Guerrilla Games and Nixxes teams.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered takes us to a post-apocalyptic world. The game takes place long after humanity found itself on the brink of extinction. The descendants of the few who managed to survive gather in small tribal communities, while the rule over the Earth has been taken over by machines resembling animals and dinosaurs. The main character of the game is a girl named Aloy, who embarks on a dangerous journey to face threats, discover the secrets of an ancient civilization, and unravel the mystery of her origin.
In Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered we view the events from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game offers a vast, open world in which we can find ruins of cities densely overgrown with vegetation, villages inhabited by representatives of particular tribes, and virgin areas - from forests to sandy deserts. While traversing this land, we get to know its inhabitants and carry out various quests for them, as well as face threats.
Aloy faces both hostile humans and aggressive machines. During dynamic battles, the protagonist makes use of melee and ranged weapons, as well as various traps. Although there is nothing to prevent us from engaging exclusively in open combat, often a better solution is to sneak around (our character can hide in tall grass and use other stealth techniques) and eliminate enemies by surprise.
Defeated robots are a source of parts and resources, which we use primarily to craft ammunition, medicine and the aforementioned traps. Some machines can serve us as mounts, but they must be reprogrammed first.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered stands out from the original primarily due to its refreshed graphics. The authors prepared over 10 hours of newly recorded conversations for the remaster. In addition, improved animations were introduced (based on special motion capture sessions), and attention was also paid to lighting and textures. The creators of the remaster also refreshed the sound layer.
The PlayStation 5 version utilizes the capabilities of the DualSense controller (including haptic vibrations), as well as the additional power of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The release for personal computers, on the other hand, offers support for ultra-wide resolutions and solutions like DLSS 3 or FSR 3.1. The list of the important new features is topped by previously unavailable accessibility features.

Game Ratings for Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered Video Game.
Metro GameCentral: 8 / 10
The storytelling and characters are as dull as ever, but Horizon Zero Dawn remains one of the best open world experiences of the last gen and now looks better than ever.
Checkpoint Gaming: 8 / 10 by Tom Quirk
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is a welcome tune-up of a modern classic. If you have never played Guerrilla Games' 2017 original, this is the definitive way to experience it. While many of the visual enhancements may be rather subtle, they are widespread, and do a lot to bring the game up to the standards of its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. The new DualSense controller features and accessibility options are also excellent additions that serve to make Horizon Zero Dawn far more immersive and approachable. That said, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered doesn't deliver much more than that, and players wanting more improvements on the gameplay side of things may be left wanting.

Passionate fans looking for an excuse to replay Aloy’s debut adventure with lovely visuals and a fresh list of trophies will find this remaster a no-brainer, but for a more sceptical soul like myself, it’s hard to look past the lack of quality of life improvements that only serve to highlight how far things have come since Horizon Zero Dawn first arrived, and how hard it’s become to look back.
