Against the Storm PC

Against the Storm is a city builder strategy game enriched with solutions taken from the roguelike genre. The game was developed by an independent Polish studio Eremite Games.

Plot

Against the Storm takes us on a journey to a fantastic world inhabited by humans, beavers and lizards. The land struggles with Blightstorm - a powerful storm that periodically destroys everything in its path. During the game we play the role of viceroy, commissioned by the ruler to get the resources needed to rebuild and improve the capital Smouldering City. To do this, we have to build new settlements in the wilderness and bravely face the adversity.

Mechanics

In Against the Storm the action was shown from the top-down view. The game takes place in the rhythm of three rainy seasons, differentiated by the intensity of rainfall and the intensity of storms. As a manager of the newly established settlement we have to focus on its constant expansion.

This requires from us the constant clearing of the forest, acquiring resources and constructing a variety of structures and complex production chains. Among the available buildings the most important are the gatherer camps, which allow the exploitation of natural resources, and workshops producing a variety of goods. In the pursuit of the desire to complete the mission assigned to us, we should not forget about our subjects, who must not only have a place to sleep, but also something to eat; from time to time we should also provide them with a little entertainment, which they will find, among other things, in taverns. As we progress, we unlock random upgrades and schemes that should make our lives a little easier.

We can use the accumulated resources to expand Smouldering City. After passing the storm there's nothing left for us but to choose a place on the map changed by the violent storms (procedurally generated) and on the new territory to start the painstaking process of building another settlement.
