Against the Storm PC

Against the Storm is a city builder strategy game with roguelike elements. It was developed by an independent Polish studio Eremite Games.

Plot

Against the Storm is set in a fantasy world inhabited by humans, beavers and lizards. The land is under constant attack by the Blightstorm - a powerful storm that periodically destroys everything in its path. We play as a viceroy, tasked by his liege to acquire resources needed to rebuild and improve the capital Smouldering City. To do so, we must build new settlements out in the wild and face many adversities.

Mechanics

Against the Storm makes use of the top-down perspective. The game adheres to the cycle of three rain periods, which vary in terms of rain and storm intensity. Being in charge of a newly established settlement, our task is to constantly expand it.

We must therefore clear forests, acquire resources, build structures and create complex production chains. Among the available buildings, the most important are gatherer camps, which let us exploit natural resources, and workshops, which produce various goods. While fulfilling our mission we must also remember our subjects, who need food and a roof over their heads; we should also provide them with some entertainment, which can be found in taverns and other buildings. As we progress through the game, we unlock random upgrades and blueprints which can make it a bit easier.

Our accumulated resources can be spent on expanding the Smouldering City. Once the storm has passed, we must choose a new place on the (procedurally generated) map and start creating a new settlement all over again.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Against the Storm are cartoonish and easily readable.
