Showgunners is a strategy game featuring turn-based combat. The player participates in a gruesome futuristic reality show, fighting psychopathic hunters on arenas filled with traps and dangers.
Showgunners is a strategy game revolving around tactical turn-based combat. It was developed by the Polish studio Artificer, founded by Kacper Szymczak, the main designer of Phantom Doctrine and Hard West.
The game is set in a grim imagining of the future, one of its most popular pastimes being a brutal reality show, the participants of which must survive a hunt by hired mercenaries.
The game's main character is Scarlett Martillo. She joins the competition to exact revenge on those associated with the show.
Showgunners is a tactical game revolving around battles taking place in closed arenas. The gameplay is turn-based, with use of cover and the environment being crucial.
Over time, Scarlett manages to recruit some allies to her team. All characters have unique abilities we can develop. Equipping them with progressively better weaponry and gear is also very important. Each map features optional bonus objective, completing which unlocks additional equipment and characters.
The arenas are filled with dangers, traps but also possible advantages to exploit. The game is made more diverse thanks to the AI director, who can make our lives easier or more difficult depending on how the battle's going.
Winning encounters grants us fame, which results in more money and more generous sponsors providing unique benefits.
The game only supports singleplayer.
Showgunners features appealing 3D visuals viewed from isometric camera angles, their main strengths being the imaginative character and location designs.

God is a Geek: 8 / 10 by Mick Fraser
If you like the genre you'll find Showgunners a worthy inclusion, despite its no-frills approach. Just go in with the right expectations.
PowerUp!: 8.5 / 10 by Leo Stevenson
Showgunners consistently delivers thrills, strategy, violence and a pitch-black satire of capitalism, social media and fame.
Hey Poor Player: 4 / 5 by Shane Boyle
Showgunners is a violent delight that leans into its setting and premise to great effect. It may not be the deepest tactical RPG out there, which, in turn, removes a lot of the replayability that the genre is known for, but as a 12-15 hour experience that puts spectacle and accessible systems first, it’s a hell of a good time. You could argue that by removing a lot of the class versatility and research systems that genre veterans appreciate, it’s narrowing its appeal somewhat, and I myself don’t see myself ever going back for a repeat playthrough. However, it’s just as easy to argue that by carving its own path and not sticking religiously to genre conventions, Showgunners is opening the door to a whole new world of players looking for something less intimidating as a gateway into the tactical RPG space. It might not have enough meat on the bone to become your next obsession, but if you want to see meat carved from the bone in tactical bloodbaths, Showgunners is absolutely worth experiencing.
