Release Date: October 2, 2025
A compilation featuring remastered versions of two very popular 3D platform games made by Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy from 2007 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 from 2010. In both games Mario and his friends are travelling the galaxy, visiting various planets, using creative skills and trying to save Princess Peach.
In 2007, a 3D platformer titled Super Mario Galaxy debuted on the Nintendo Wii console. Less than three years later, its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, followed in its footsteps. After fifteen years, Nintendo decided to remind players of these productions and release a compilation of their remastered versions, titled Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Compared to the originals, games included in the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 package stand out primarily due to their higher graphics resolution and improved user interface. Moreover, the developers enriched them with additional chapters of the Storybook. There are also an assist mode (where the difficulty level is lower due to extra health and regeneration after taking a fall) and a soundtrack mode, where we can listen to the game's music. The icing on the cake is the support for amiibo figures.
In Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
As the title suggests, the compilation takes us to the galaxy. In the first game, Mario's task is to save Princess Peach and recover the Power Stars stolen by Bowser. In the sequel, the protagonist once again sets off to rescue the princess, travelling the galaxy aboard the Starship Mario in the company of Yoshi.
The gameplay takes place on planets that vary in terms of size, climate, gravity, inhabited creatures, and the challenges awaiting us. We rush across the surface of celestial bodies, jump on platforms, eliminate enemies, and also solve puzzles.
Mushrooms and other treats make our journey easier, providing us with various abilities, such as flying (Bee Mario), passing through objects (Boo Mario), sliding on ice (Ice Mario), shooting fiery projectiles (Fire Mario), or creating additional platforms (Cloud Mario). Yoshi (a playable character in Super Mario Galaxy 2) has separate power-ups, which allow him to run at a sprint (Dash Yoshi), inflate like a balloon (Blimp Yoshi), or illuminate the darkness (Bulb Yoshi).

Game Ratings for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Video Game.
WellPlayed: 7.5 / 10 by Kieron Verbrugge
While it's great to have new ports of some of Nintendo's very best 3D platformers, a high cost of entry and scarce embellishments takes a bit of the shine off of these stars.

Whether you mastered gravity years ago or are venturing to Mario's outer space for the first time, you're in for a treat.

Galaxy 2 on Switch includes the same additions as the first game. It introduces Assist Mode to give newcomers a leg up, and if you're playing co-op, Player Two can use the mouse controls on Switch 2. It also suffers from the same quirks: the gyro controls, although perfectly serviceable, never feel quite as good as the original Wii controls, though some of the camera issues in the original perhaps aren’t quite as prevalent here.
