Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt (initially known under the working title Vampire: The Masquerade - Battle Royale) is a third-person online shooter belonging to the battle royale subgenre. The project uses a free-to-play model with micropayments. The game was developed by Sharkmob studio, founded by former employees of Massive Entertainment, who previously worked, among others, on Tom Clancy's The Division.

Plot

The action of the game was set in the World of Darkness universe, created for the purposes of "paper" RPG systems, such as Vampire: The Masquerade.

In Bloodhunt betrayal leads to war between vampires. To make matters worse, the vampires are targeted by a mysterious organization known as The Division. Players take part in the conflict to see their side win and restore the Masquerade, a pact to protect the creatures of the night from discovery by mortals.

Mechanics

Bloodhunt is an online action game. We observe the events from a third person perspective and the game is about battling with other players. We all control vampires, whose physical abilities are far beyond the human ones. Warriors can, for example, jump on long distances or climb walls. 3-player squad and solo variants are available. The gameplay continues until there is only one person or group left on the map.

We can take on the role of a vampire from many different clans, offering unique special abilities. Each clan has two separate archetypes to choose from, also with their own abilities, which further increases the variety of characters in the game. During battles we use both traditional firearms and white weapons, as well as numerous supernatural powers, allowing for example to teleport to short distances or create blinding walls of light.

Apart from player-controlled vampires there are AI-controlled civilians on the maps. We can attack them and suck their blood, which allows to regenerate strength and health of our character and develop abilities.

The masquerade is not just part of the background story here. If another AI character sees us drinking the blood of a mortal, then for a short time all other players will see our location on the map. On top of that, AI-controlled hunter squads will start hunting us down.

Game modes

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt supports only multiplayer.

Technical aspects

The game offers eye-pleasing 3D graphics. The maps have a lot of detail and are vertically expanded, and the vampire characters are characterized by great diversity.
