Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is an adventure game set in the urban fantasy universe of World of Darkness, known for its many different pen&paper RPG systems, such as Vampire: The Masquerade or Werewolf: The Apocalypse. The game enables the players to play as a vampire that becomes part of a conflict between two powerful factions. Polish studio Draw Distance (formerly known as iFun4all and responsible for Serial Cleaner) is responsible for developing the title.
In Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York, the player takes on the role of a newborn vampire who does not yet understand the rules of his existence. The protagonist quickly becomes part of the brutal conflict between the traditional Camarilla family and independent Anarchists. With time, our hero gathers around himself a coterie (a team of comrades with convergent goals). It is worth noting, that the plot of the game is part of the canon of the fifth edition of the Vampire: The Masquerade RPG system.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is mainly about reading descriptions and dialogues, observing illustrations and making choices that affect the course of the story. The main goal of the game is to get to know the plot prepared by the devs, but we also have access to a selection of side tasks (also related to our companions).
It is worth noting, that the player can take on the role of one of three different characters, belonging to classic clans known from Vampire: Masquerade. The choice decides which vampiric powers (so-called disciplines) we will gain access to during the game. The clan also has an impact on our relations with other members of the coterie and the availability of individual side tasks.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York can be played only solo. The gameplay is based on a story campaign.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York has decent visuals, which consists mainly of two-dimensional illustrations. The title is distinguished by its dark artistic style, which fits well with the characteristic style of the World of Darkness universe. The illustrations resemble the graphics from the rulebooks for Vampire: The Masquerade.
