Action RPGs belonging to the hack'n'slash and roguelite genres are so compatible with each other that combining them in specific projects no longer surprises anyone. The independent German development studio Nightshift Game Development decided on just such a hybrid for their debut project - the game titled Varthos: Heir to the Throne.

Gameplay

In Varthos: Heir to the Throne, events are viewed from an isometric perspective. During the game we take control of fallen heroes resurrected for us by the titular Varthos and find ourselves in the midst of a battle for the world's throne. If we fall, we have the opportunity to embody another character.

Our main task is to eliminate hordes of enemies. The adventure takes us through various locations and procedurally generated dungeons. The enemies we encounter in these places can be defeated using melee and ranged weapons, as well as magic.
