A 15-year-old donated more than $36,000 to Fortnite streamer Clix on Twitch in just one month and was ultimately banned by the streamer. Twitch prohibits anyone under 13 from using the platform and limit individual donations to $100. The teen made over 300 donations, and many of them were way over the limit.

When donations go wild

Twitch streamer Cody “Clix” Conrad recently encountered a surprising situation when a viewer started sending him massive donations, over $36,000 in just one month (via Mein-MMO). Curious about the source, Clix reached out to the donor, who turned out to be just 15 years old.

The teen explained that he had made that money from investing in stocks. When asked if he was financially stable, he admitted he was close to going into debt. The money he donated came from a credit card that was under his father's name, since he's too young to have one himself.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy came under fire after using other creators’ chatrooms to promote his own charity stream, which rubbed the Twitch community the wrong way.

Eventually, the teen’s father discovered the excessive spending, got angry, and told him to stop making any more donations. But shortly after, during another one of Clix’s livestreams, the teenager sent another smaller donation. At that point, Clix chose to ban him entirely.

The 15-year-old said he enjoyed donating because it gave him a dopamine boost and claimed he wasn’t addicted to spending. Clix didn’t buy it, saying money has real impact at that age. The teen also kept mentioning he had a disability, but didn’t say what kind. Viewers were left unsure whether this claim was true or not.

On X post, a lot of people were doubtful about the teen’s story, especially the part about making all that money from stocks. When pressed, he admitted his family’s pretty well-off, so many think he was just spending his parents’ money.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is issuing over $126 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were charged for unwanted in-game purchases.

What’s really stirring things up is that the community’s divided on whether Clix should return the donations. Some argue the kid should face the consequences and learn from his mistakes. Others weren’t happy when Clix said he didn’t want to encourage refunds, saying if he truly didn’t care, he could’ve just told the teen to get his money back. Then again, some believe the kid would just end up giving the money to another streamer anyway.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
