The deadline to file a claim in the class action lawsuit against Epic Games and Fortnite has been extended. Here's how to know if you should file a claim.

Today, Fortnite players in the U.S. may be eligible to receive a portion of the $126 million being distributed as a result of a class action lawsuit settled by the Federal Trade Commission. Previously, claims had to be filed by February 14th, 2025, but the FTC has extended the deadline to July 9th. There are a few stipulations, such as your U.S. residency, and the claim must have occurred between 2017 and 2022. But it can’t hurt to take a look at the FTC’s website and see if you qualify.
From the FTC’s website, “Epic Games, the company responsible for Fortnite, agreed to pay money to settle FTC allegations related to in-game purchases… the company unlawfully charged players for unwanted purchases, let children rack up unauthorized charges… and blocked some users who disputed wrongful charges from accessing their purchased content.” The FTC is sending out 969,173 payments to those who file a valid claim by February 14th, but is still reviewing any claims filed from then until July 9th. So, if you have already filed, you don’t need to file again.
The FTC also shared some specifics on who is eligible to apply for a refund. If you fall into any of these categories, it's worth filling out a claim. First, if “you were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.” For parents, if “your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.” So, a much shorter timeframe for that situation. Finally, if “your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.” Anyone wishing to file under the age of 18 must also have their claim form completed by a parent or guardian.
Nearly one million people have already filed successful claims, as the FTC is sending out payments to those 969 thousand people affected. It makes the math easier, but keep in mind that the settlement will likely not be divided completely evenly, and that many thousands more claims will be filed in the coming week. But don’t let that discourage you; not only would a valid claim earn you some cash, but it will also help hold Epic Games responsible for their unlawful actions against you. Plus, the FTC assures that your Fortnite account won’t be affected, so you won’t lose any items purchased in-game.
If you’ve already filed a valid claim, you may receive your piece of the settlement soon. If you receive a check, the FTC recommends cashing it within 90 days. If you receive payment through PayPal, the FTC recommends accepting it within 30 days. Any valid claims filed after the initial February 14th deadline may have to wait until 2026 to receive payment, although the FTC states that it will update the website with more information when available.
