Apparently Hell has Frozen Over as There Will be No New Call of Duty in 2023

According to the latest reports, the upcoming game from Treyarch has been delayed to 2024. Thus, 2023 will be the first year in a long time in which a new installment of the Call of Duty series will not be released.

All indications are that the release of the Call of Duty game developed by Treyarch will be postponed from 2023 to 2024;Thus, next year will be the first in over a dozen years when we will not get a new main installment of the series.

Basic information

The source of this information is Jason Schreier, who is a very well informed journalist from Bloomberg.

  1. The folks at Treyarch are said to be very happy that they will get an extra year to work on their game.
  2. The reasons for the decision were, among others weaker than expected results of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
  3. Activision is concerned that too many games in the series released in a short period of time began to negatively affect the performance of the entire cycle.
  4. The decision was made by Activision. It was not influenced by Microsoft, which will soon take over the publisher.

This is big news. Ever since Call of Duty 2 from 2005, players have received a new installment of the main series every year, like a clockwork. If you include spin-offs, the series has never taken a "break" since the release of the first installment in 2003 (2004 saw the console release of Call of Duty: Finest Hour).

Call of Duty fans will not complain about the lack of attractions in 2023

Postponing Treyarch's game to 2024 does not mean that 2023 will not be filled with attractions for fans of the brand.

  1. 2022 releases Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward, the studio responsible for the project, will be able to develop the game for several years. According to well-known leaker Tom Henderson delay of the next installment also shows how much trust Activision has in Infinity Ward.
  2. This year we will also play Call of Duty: Warzone 2.
  3. Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 should have no trouble keeping players interested in the brand, despite the lack of a new installment in 2023.
  4. This will be helped by the fact that both games are to offer a new DMZ mode, inspired by solutions from Escape from Tarkov.
