A bunch of new rumors on Assassin’s Creed: Origins – The Witcher 3-inspired combat and more

Here's a bunch of new rumors on Assassin’s Creed: Origins. An alleged Ubisoft employee revealed a lot about the game's protagonist, combat, and other mechanics.

A person who claims to be a Ubisoft employee took it to 4chan to reveal lots of new information about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Origins. As we know, the next installment to one of the most recognizable franchises in the French game developer’s portfolio is going to be set in Egypt. What’s interesting, this is supposed to be the first part of a trilogy (focused on a new protagonist who is an Israelite, described as a quieter version of Altair), the second of which is to be set in Greece. The hero won’t be known by name at first, but later, as he continues liberating his people from slavery, he will become known as Shed, after the deity of salvation.

When it comes to story, it is probably going to be set somewhere between 1200 and 1400 BCE. The source says that “a piece of Eden is used during the Exodus and the crossing of the Red Sea, playing into the whole overarching mission of the modern-day protagonist”. Speaking of the modern-day protagonist, he is a fully-trained Assassin with a new team supporting him on his mission, although old characters, like Rebecca, Shaun and William, will also make appearances. If we are to believe the leak, Assassin’s Creed: Origins will be focused entirely on the story, and the game will not feature any multiplayer whatsoever nor a companion app (but it will include microtransactions like Black Flag and Rogue).

As for the game mechanics, Assassin’s Creed: Origins will feature sailing similar to that of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s. The source adds:

Combat is less one-button and more reaction-based. Enemies have different attack patterns and will actively look to flank you if you're in a wide open area. Yet again, the best way to describe it is very similar to The Witcher 3, but a little easier to grasp from the get-go. (…) Stealth is much more integrated into the world. You can hide on corners, in crowds, in buildings and in bushes/haystacks. Imagine Syndicate and Unity's stealth, but much more well thought out and implemented. Social stealth is emphasized a lot in the game. You'll be blending into crowds and with groups of slaves an awful lot.

Another interesting thing is that the game has no towers – a signature element of the series. Instead, players will use an eagle companion to scout the area nearby in search of points of interest. These and other new things will be presented at this year’s E3 – provided that the leak is solid.
