AC Mirage's Main Protagonist is a Gangster With Mental Problems

We have received a handful of new official information about the main character of Assassin's Creed: Mirage. According to them, we are to get to know Basim as a young thief, struggling with mental problems.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Art director of Assassin's Creed: Mirage revealed new information about Basim's story in an interview with Access The Animus.
  2. In the game, the protagonist is supposed to be a young thief struggling with mental problems, through which he joins the Assassin Brotherhood.
  3. In addition, mythological elements in Mirage are to be scarce - they are part of Basim's problems.

In a recent interview with the Access The Animus channel on YouTube Jean-Luc Sala, the art director of the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Mirage, shared interesting information about the game's main character, Basim. In Mirage we are to get to know him as A 17-year-old "gangster" who struggles with mental problems. As Sala said:

"At the beginning he [Basim - ed. note] is confident, a bit cocky. He is a thief, a gangster. (...) He is aware of his mental problems, has doubts about who he is. His life will be a bit complicated."

His mental problems are the visions and nightmares that haunt him. That's why he joins the Hidden Ones (which eventually became the Assassins) to learn more about them and deal with them. And this is where the whole mythological thread comes into play, which the developers recently talked about, raising doubts among fans.

From the first announcement of Mirage Ubisoft has been hinting that the new installment of Assassin's Creed will be gameplay-wise more akin to the earlier installments than the later, RPG-like ones. The appearance of at least jinn in the game would contradict this idea a bit - Altair and Ezio were not as exposed to fantasy elements as Eivor or Kassandra.

However, Sala stressed in the interview that in Mirage there will be more historical facts and less mythology. The genie appearing in the game is likely to be Basim's vision, and therefore something sitting in his psyche. Supernatural elements will probably appear in specific episodes of the game (something along the lines of the assassination moments and pre-death conversations in the first games).
