Advanced Warfare 2 and MW2 DLCs - Leaks on Future of Call of Duty

It seems that after the failed Call of Duty: Vanguard, Sledgehammer Games will abandon the realities of World War II in favor of futurism. On the other hand, 2023 will not bring us a new installment of the series from Activision Blizzard, but only expansions for Modern Warfare 2.

Update

CharlieIntel - Twitter user specializing in, among other things, news about Call of Duty - debunked yesterday's rumors that Sledgehammer Games is developing a second installment of Advanced Warfare. According to his sources, the studio may indeed be working on something, but it is not AW2:

As for the second part of the news, it was not denied in any way - this, in turn, could mean that Activision Blizzard does indeed have a big DLC planned for next year for Modern Warfare 2.

Original message (October 5, 2022)

Nearly a year ago Call of Duty: Vanguard debuted on store shelves. The game, which was to return to its roots and thus the glory days of CoD, did not live up to the expectations. Sledgehammer Games, which was the developer of this unlucky title, has not been taken off the series, and has even reportedly been given the opportunity to create another title.

As reported by reputable insider Ralph Valve on WhatifGaming, the aforementioned team was given a chance to redeem itself by developing Advanced Warfare 2 - a continuation of the well-received futuristic shooter from 2014 (which, by the way, also came from them). According to rumors the second part of AW will be built on a modified IW 9.0 engine - the same one that powers Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In turn, its release is scheduled for 2025..

Interestingly, earlier idea of the developers allegedly assumed that Vanguard would live to see several sequels. It seems that the poor reception of the original buried those plans.

However, this is not the end of reports from the world of Call of Duty. According to Tom Henderson's publication on Insider Gaming, based on information from Twitter user TheGhostOfHope, Activision Blizzard is reportedly anticipating a release for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 a larger DLC coming in 2023 to compensate for the lack of plans to release a new installment in the series at that time. So far, not much is known about it other than that it is expected to include remastered versions of the best multiplayer maps from the previous installments.

Finally, let us remind you that the release of Modern Warfare 2 is almost around the corner. Infinity Ward's game will launch on October 28, this year. The title's target platforms are PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
