Age of Wonders 4 is the latest release in the popular series of turn-based strategy games. You can select from a range of predefined factions or create your own kingdom from scratch. The game takes you on an exciting journey to conquer magical worlds that are home to perilous creatures. Of course you will travel faster with mounts. In this guide we will talk about it.
If you decide to create your own faction, there is an option to pick a Mount perk in the Physical Form section in the Body Trait tab. There are 4 different mounts to choose from.
Those perks change your regular units’ mounts to those picked. Which will grant your cavalry a powerful boost. What is more, thanks to them, some warriors, which normally are not mounted, get these unconventional “horses”. Your ruler also starts with one of them.
Many players wonder, if this perk is worth taking because there are not many cavalry units in the game. Nevertheless, other fans underline the fact, that those mounts have very interesting special abilities, which can be very powerful. Unicorns are ideal to flank enemies, Spiders can stop them and Wolves are perfect for frontline units to give them damage boost. Sadly, it seems that the least useful option is Nightmare with lowering morale ability.
Some of your units have mounts included. You can obviously alter them thanks to the traits, which we talked about earlier. However, your lords also need some “horses” and can equip them. In leaders’ case, they work in the same way, as other elements of the equipment. You can change them as you wish. The important factor is that you can’t use some two-handed weapons while riding, as they block mount slot.
