Apex Legends Debuts on Steam With a Bang

A couple of hours was enough for Apex Legends to conquer Steam. The game's debut was very successful. Tens of thousands of people are already playing the game, and the service was flooded with positive ratings from players.

This morning, Steam has seen the launch of Respawn Entertainment's battle royale shooter Apex Legends. Judging by the first data, the game's debut on Valve's platform proved to be very successful.

It has only been a few hours since the launch, and the game can already boast a large community. At the time of writing this news 59 thousand people are now playingApex Legends on Steam, and the current activity record is 65 thousand. Such results make the title among the top five most popular games on the platform, ahead of such titles as Grand Theft Auto V, Warframe and Team Fortress 2.

The players have also eagerly shared their impressions of the game. Currently, Apex Legends can already boast almost a thousand reviews from Steam users and 91% of them are positive.

These numbers would be impressive for any new title, especially just a few hours after debut. In the case of Apex Legends, this success is all the more remarkable because it is not a new game. It launched in February last year on Origin. Many players are reluctant to shop outside of Steam, but in this case we are dealing with a free-to-play title.

It is worth noting that Apex Legends edition on Steam does not require an Origin account. In the case of e.g. Ubisoft games, even after buying the Steam version, we still have to log in to the publisher's separate client each time. Respawn Entertainment went a different way. This may explain the impressive launch on Valve's website, as many of the existing fans have happily abandoned Origin in favor of Steam, especially since the devs made it possible to transfer progress between accounts.

In addition to PC, Apex Legends is also available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4; Xbox Series X/S and PS5 owners will also be able to play the title thanks to backwards compatibility. For now, the developers aren't ready to confirm a separate edition for next-gen platforms. We know, however, that next year a Nintendo Switch edition will be released.
