Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora May be a Bit Different Than Ubisoft's Typical Sandbox

Interesting rumors have surfaced online about the gameplay in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is being developed by Ubisoft-owned studio Massive.

We still know little about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a Ubisoft game developed by studio Massive, known from The Division Mseries. Those waiting for this game should be interested in rumors, which recently appeared on Reddit. Their author, Eht_Hctins, is quite reputable, and on top of that, shortly after their publication, he deleted his entire account, which may suggest that he was afraid of the publisher's reaction to the disclosure of these details.

  1. The gameplay structure in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is expected to deviate from Ubisoft's typical open worlds. Instead of markers on the map and clearly defined tasks, the players will be led to a relatively small location, where they will have to figure out on their own what needs to be done.
  2. World of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is expected to change as a result of players' actions. We will also get a weather system, affecting the behavior of characters and animals in the game. Flying beasts, for example, will not be inclined to take to the air during a storm.
  3. Players will be able to tame the creatures that live on Pandora and use them in combat, both on land and during air battles.
  4. The game will also offer more traditional elements, such as crafting or collecting items from the bodies of slain enemies.

Experimenting with the quest formula would be nothing new for Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla offered gameplay modes in which markers were severely limited and the player had to rely on more general clues to navigate to quest objectives. In addition to traditional missions, the latter game also offered small adventures in which we freely had to react to events, with no interface clearly showing what we needed to do.

However, if these rumors are to be believed, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will go further in this direction than Ubisoft's earlier games. At the same time, limiting such vaguely defined tasks to specific regions of the map should ensure that we do not wander aimlessly throughout the virtual world.

Recall that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is heading for PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5, and for now the developers are not ready to give an exact release date. Recent reports suggest, however, that the debut should take place in the 2023/24 fiscal year, the period from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
