Crusader Kings II: The Reaper’s Due is coming. And it’s absolutely sick

The Black Death itself, as well as other morbid diseases, found their way to the spotlight now that the newest Crusader Kings II expansion – The Reaper’s Due – has been announced. It will be heading to PC later this year.

Although it’s been 4 years since the initial release of Crusader Kings II, Paradox Interactive is even further from forgetting about their fans, having just announced another expansion for the game, called The Reaper’s Due. Starring the Black Death, also known as the plague, which wiped out about half of the European population in the 14th century, the expansion will focus on the pandemics that once passed through the world.

After the Hospital of Constantinople falls, the Barbarians won’t have much more work to do.

The Reaper’s Due will introduce several new mechanics, with the aforementioned epidemics being the most important. The diseases will spread from one province to another, killing dozens, shrinking the player’s army, and – in turn – reducing their overall income. Furthermore, the player will now be able to isolate their kingdom from the infected regions just so that the king could really live long. Well, at least a bit longer than his minions. Don’t worry, though, for with the help of physicians working at royal hospitals you should manage to prevent any spontaneous outbreaks. Some noble folk will even pay you huge dividends in gold and manpower, should your provinces remain intact.

Can’t wait to face death itself? Unfortunately, you have to hold your horses a little while longer, for we still don’t know when exactly the expansion is going to hit the stores. But as the wind is getting dryer and dryer, something tells us it will happen near the end of the year. Stay in touch – we’ll keep you posted.
