Game Code Suggest Refreshed Overpass Coming to CS:GO

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive received a new minor update. One Reddit user noticed that there are a lot of references to the Overpass map in its code. This may suggest that Valve is preparing a refreshed version.

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. One Reddit user discovered numerous references to the Overpass map in the code of the latest CS:GO patch;
  2. Players have speculated that Overpass may be getting an overhaul soon;
  3. So far, nothing has been officially confirmed by Valve.

Yesterday, a new update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released on Steam servers. The update isn't too big, and focuses mainly on fixing a few annoying bugs. For example, players should no longer have problems with getting stuck on walls in certain areas. However, potentially the most interesting element is not visible at first glance. One Reddit user, known as EVAD3 decided to look through the patch's code and discovered that there are a lot of references to the Overpass map.

Entries relate to virtually every element present on the said map - starting with bricks, ceilings and concrete, and ending with fences, floors and walls. Additionally, in the files we can find models described as part of Overpass. The evidence in the form of screenshots can be seen below.

What does all this mean? The first thing that comes to mind is that Valve is preparing an overhaul of Overpass. This would not be a novelty at all. Previously, the iconic Dust 2 received such remake. So far, these are just speculations, in no way confirmed by Gabe Newell's company.

Overpass first appeared in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in December 2013. It is set in the city of Berlin. It may not be the most iconic battleground of Valve's online shooter, but it has its fans and is a frequent choice among the pool of tournament maps.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will celebrate its ninth birthday this August. The game is still wildly popular and tens of thousands of people follow the competition on Twitch alone. For nearly two years the title has been available in free-to-play model on Steam.
