Valve has finally ended the development of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. As of January 1, the company no longer supports this version of the popular shooter.

The information shown on the support page of Steam may come as a surprise to some gamers. In October Counter-Strike 2 completely replaced CSGO, inheriting its tab (and reviews) on Steam. Some players were not thrilled with this, mainly due to the lack of some features (including Steam workshop; its support was added only in November).

However, those eager to play Global Offensive were able to use a certain option, which, by the way, is still available. To continue playing CSGO, all you have to do is select the "Legacy" beta version in the "Properties" of the game. Of course, this does not allow for ranked play, but only on fan servers. There is also no item drop system.

Despite this, Valve continued to support this version of CS for several months, but only until the end of 2023. The "beta" is still available for download for those willing to play, which may be of interest to players with weaker PCs. After all, it just so happens that with the release of CS 2 support for 32-bit operating systems was discontinued. These account for less than a per cent of all configurations used by users of Steam.

The decision to completely replace CSGO by CS 2 has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, just as it did for another series of online shooters. The difference is that Overwatch 2 still hasn't regained the trust of players, while Counter-Strike 2 after the initial turbulence, has nevertheless won the approval of a sizable portion of the community. Which does not prevent them from complaining about the extremely "lazy" release and bugs in the game, and expressing their longing for the "good old" CSGO.
