Cyberpunk 2077 Looks Better on Consoles With FSR 2.1

Cyberpunk 2077 has been tested under the watchful eye of the team from Digital Foundry. Now it has taken a closer look at the changes introduced by patch 1.61, and more specifically, the framerate improvements brought by FSR 2.1.

Cyberpunk 2077 recently received thanks to patch 1.6.1, which deals primarily with bug fixes. However, it also introduces a rather important novelty - especially from the perspective of those who appreciate good performance with high-quality visuals. We're talking about FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.1, a technology developed by AMD and enabling us to gain better performance in games while maintaining superior visuals. Digital Foundry checked how it performs in CD Projekt RED's latest work. You can find the editors' thoughts in the video posted below.

At the outset, it is worth noting that FSR 2.1 was also included in the release for current-gen consoles. Unlike in the PC version, here the feature can not be disabled, but it is difficult to find the cons of such solution. As the author of the video states, AMD technology significantly improves image quality in almost every situation, including when it comes to elements seen in the distance. This is especially noticeable in ray tracing mode and when looking at the outskirts of Night City at night. Differences can also be seen in hair, on which there are now far fewer refractions.

However, it was not possible to get rid of occasional performance drops, even in performance mode.. This is especially true in crowded areas. This is something that FSR has no control over. Compared to patch 1.5, progress can be seen, but not always - the latest patch improves the game's performance in some places, and in some places it is now worse. There are also no particular differences between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, although Digital Foundry's editor noted slightly better performance on the "smaller" current-gen Xbox. On the other hand, however, it is in this version that the most frequent glitches occur.

Cyberpunk 2077 debuted on December 10, 2020, originally on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. On February 15, this year, the next-gen update was released. CD Projekt RED has since announced a story expansion titled Phantom Liberty, which will debut next year. The developers have also not stopped working on fixing their game.
