CD Projekt Red boasted about a „milestone” reached by the for Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. Phantom Liberty has already been purchased by 5 million players.
Last September saw the debut of the highly acclaimed story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. High ratings on Steam and Metacritic aren't the only success for CD Projekt Red, however. Phantom Liberty - because it's the DLC in question - is selling very well. The creators informed today about the fact that in 2023, the expansion was purchased by 5 million people.
This is a high result that would be envied by the developers of many a standalone game. Recall that, according to data reported by CDPR at the end of November, Phantom Liberty sold 4.3 million copies. Thus, in more than a month the expansion gained about 700,000 new buyers. In contrast, in the first week after its release, sales of Phantom Liberty amounted to 3 million copies.
To illustrate the whole situation, it is worth noting that the basic version of Cyberpunk 2077 was purchased by more than 25 million people (these are the figures as of October 2023). This means that about 20% of players who own the base game decided to explore the new story set in Dogtown and invest in the expansion.
Although Cyberpunk 2077 was released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PCs, in Phantom Liberty the developers decided not to limit themselves in terms of technology and did not release this expansion for eighth-generation consoles.
Finally, let us remind you that the game will not receive further expansions. CD Projekt Red is now focused on working on The Witcher 4 and sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
