Cyberpunk 2077 - Streamer Gives Up Cameo Because of Fans

One of Chinese streamers, who was supposed to appear in Cyberpunk 2077 as an easter egg, decided to resign from the project. The reason was pressure from Internet users.

One of the characters will not appear in CP2077 - or her voice will have to be recorded again.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. One of Chinese streamers, which was supposed to appear as NPC in Cyberpunk 2077, resigned from her role;
  2. The reason was strong criticism from the Internet users;
  3. The woman has stirred controversy in the past because of her actions, sexual orientation and positive opinion about TLOU2.

It's been known for some time that one of the easter eggs in Cyberpunk 2077 will feature characters modelled on popular streamers from around the world. Unfortunately, participation in this project is not always a source of joy and may cause unnecessary problems. The Chinese streamer decided to give up her role in the game. The reason was the pressure from Internet users. Information about her resignation appeared on Reddit.

A message published by a streamer.

"I am very honored to be chosen as an ester egg streamer in the game and do voice acting for some NPC. I love the game thus I accepted their offer and finished my recording at the beginning of 2020 in CDPR UK studio.

Sadly, I received large amount of disputes from online community after the announcement, thus I have quit the role and requested CDPR to remove my voiceline from the game. I hope this incident will not undermine players' anticipation to the game," we read.

The heroine of the news is one of the most popular streamers in China. In the past, she was involved in so-called "online dramas" many times, for which she has been heavily criticized. Sometimes the cause of problems were her character and actions - e.g. alleged lack of loyalty to friends or attacking / harassing other users. However, in some cases she was criticised for her sexual orientation (for some time she was in a relationship with another female youtuberl) or attitude towards games (for example, she took flak because she liked Last of Us: Part II, which was hated by a part of the community).

It is worth noting that the very idea of recreating selected streamers in CP2077 has provoked a discussion in China. Some people are wondering whether there should be so many well-known Internet users in CD Projekt RED's game and whether the easter egg invented by the developers is not simply an extensive advertising tool.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on November 19 on PCs and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will also be available later on next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. And, as a reminder, another Night City Wire show will take place tonight.
