Dead Island 2 With Exciting Mechanic; Key New Feature

The developers of Dead Island 2 have revealed details about the card system that will replace the traditional progression tree in the game.

Developers from Dambuster gave an interview to Game Informer, through which we learned some interesting things about Dead Island 2.

  1. The developers revealed that the game will not feature a traditional progression tree. Instead, players are expected to collect skill cards.
  2. We will be able to have only a few of them equipped at a time, so it is necessary to select them for the situation.
  3. The game will enable us to switch them freely. Nothing will stand in the way of, for example, making a great leap and selecting other skills from the deck before landing.
  4. The way the developers describe these cards suggests that people who do not like card games have no reason to worry. Here, the components of the deck will simply act as visualizations of skills, making it easier to switch them quickly.
  5. The developers are very proud of this system, claiming that it is one of the most exciting new features in the game. The cards are supposed to be diverse and their selection will result in both pleasant surprises and gameplay-diversifying disasters.

All this sounds promising. How well a skill system based on switching cards can work in action was shown by last year's gem Neon White.

Recall that Dead Island 2 will debut on April 28, 2023. The game is heading for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

The game has been awaited for a very long time. It was announced almost nine years ago and since then the project has changed developers twice. First, Yager Development was replaced by Sumo Digital, and then the project was taken over by Dambuster Studios, team known for developing Homefront: The Revolution. All indications are that the latter team will finally succeed in bringing Dead Island 2 to the finish line.
