Dying Light 2's Space DLC is a Joke, but It's Not Impossible

Dying Light 2's lead designer Tymon Smektala jokingly stated that the upcoming expansions for the base game won't take us into space, but will be a bit more mundane.

7 years have passed since the release of the first Dying Light, and even now, a few months after the release of the sequel, there are about as many people playing the first game as there are playing the second. Techland's recipe for success is, first and foremost, continuous support for their games. As we informed some time ago, the studio is very satisfied with the sales results of Dying Light 2, which resulted in the announcement of work on the seubsequent expansions for th studio's flagship product. Tymon Smektala, one of the game's creators, decided to share a handful of information on the subject in an interview with VG247.

When asked by the editors whether these additions will be at least as spectacular as in the case of the first part, Smektala answered in a humorous tone, suggesting the players not to expect that the upcoming DLCs will take them into space.

“Our PR lady is looking at me funny for saying this because in other interviews I’ve said something hypothetically about Dying Light 3, but the news headlines were ‘Dying Light 3 confirmed’, so I’m not confirming that we will take players to space or take players to Atlantis," joked Smektala.

Polish studio wants to emphasize the importance of Villedor, the city, which we visit as Aiden. This will be possible, among others, through addition of new locations, yet undiscovered by the players, placed for example on the outskirts of the agglomeration.

The upcoming DLC is to be in some way related to what is happening in the aforementioned area. Techland's employee probably had in mind complementation of the knowledge acquired when playing the base game. Based on the statement of the Polish developer, a similar tactic will be taken in the second story expansion, which will also be located near The City. This does not mean, however, that in the future the creators of Dying Light 2 will not send us to Atlantis or space.

“I think in those 5 years [of support - ed. note] the game will have grown to be really huge. I think that’s all I can reveal at this point. The game will definitely grow to get more locations and more content but it’s too early to talk about specifics. We don’t want to promise something and then it takes on a new life of its own and gets taken out of context," added the lead designer.

Finally, let's remember that the latest game by Techland is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. In turn, the exact release date of the first expansion for Dying Light 2 is not known yet. We only know that it will most likely be the end of 2022.
